Things I’ve learned about retraining trotters and pacers
Dodgy Dealers and Barmy Buyers
One of the main topics of conversation in the horse world at the moment is the sheer proliferation of scammers, dodgy dealers and other often amazingly creative con artists. Buying a horse is a minefield, and to an inexperienced buyer, it can be very difficult to sift through the lame, mad, confused or non-existent horses that are flooding the market and find the right one for you to take home.
Here are a few things I’ve learned about buying and selling horses over the years. None of my ‘trade secrets’ are secrets because my ultimate aim is for Standardbreds and trotters to be appreciated and enjoyed by the general public, as well as by harness racing enthusiasts (who are already firm fans of these horses), so I hope this is of some use to potential buyers.
